Even more importantly, our relationship to God may need the occasional boost. Our lives are busy with work, school, church, family, friends and many other good activities. We often let these good activities take the time that we should be spending with God. In Revelation 2:4 (NIV) the Ephesians are told ?Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.? This command is a timeless request from our God who IS love. We all remember how our lives changed when we first entered into a relationship with Jesus ? how we were full of love and wanted to tell everyone what we had found, and how we wanted to spend time with God in prayer and in His Word. Do you still have that same passion ? or have the cares of this world reduced our relationship to Him to a Sunday (or Saturday night) date?
Our families are built upon two primary relationships ? first and foremost, our vertical relationship with God - and then secondly (but critically important as well), our horizontal relationship with our spouse. The storms and trials of life in a step-family can be weathered if these two relationships remain strong ? and remain a priority. Take time each day ? each week ? each month ? and each year to strengthen these relationships by spending time and reconnecting with God, and with your spouse.
